People are not afraid of chemical plants. Why can Japan do it?

Date:2020-07-13 17:22Views:
The well-known industry saying "Chemistry makes life better" has a more significant and practical significance in Japan, a country with a highly developed chemical industry. Whether it is a chemical giant such as jx, Mitsubishi Chemical, or an ordinary small and medium-sized chemical plant, corporate showrooms are often full of "life breath": shampoo, mobile phones, car tires... through these direct or indirect products, you can feel the beauty of chemistry. Life is so close.
Also close is the distance between chemical companies and residential areas. Many chemical plants and residential areas in Japan are just across the road, but the two sides can live in harmony. Perhaps it is because there is no pungent smell, no black smelly waste water, so there is no retreat from Sanshe, and there is no "talk about discoloration"...
A few days ago, Thorpe Group invited community representatives and well-known netizens to form a chemical environmental protection delegation to visit many chemical companies in Japan. The outstanding performance of Japanese companies in safety production and environmental protection has made people see the infinite possibilities of chemical plants as environmentally friendly people, and also made Thorpe move toward the goal of "China's best green chemical company", with greater confidence .
Across the road from the residential area of the chemical plant
As an island country, most chemical companies in Japan are located near the bay, and many chemical plants are built on the land created by the sea. But even so, after decades of development, the city and the chemical plant area have long been integrated, and the phenomenon of chemical plants is more common than that of neighboring residential areas.
JX Nikko Nippon Energy Corporation is Japan's largest oil refiner. The company's Negishi Oil Refinery is located in Yokohama City. The plant covers an area of 2.2 million square meters, and it is 12 kilometers long around the plant. It is such a large chemical base, just across the road from the nearest residential area. The towering production plant in the plant is no more than 200 meters away from the surrounding residential buildings.
The Mizushima Industrial Zone in Kurashiki City, the town of Youjiang, Zhenjiang, is a well-known heavy chemical industry area in Japan. It gathers the production bases of chemical giants such as Mitsubishi Chemical and Asahi Kasei Chemicals. Its industrial output value exceeds that of Okayama Prefecture (Japan’s prefecture is equivalent to our province , Kurashiki City belongs to 50% of Okayama Prefecture). But even in this chemical district where enterprises gather, there are still communities, schools, and shopping malls, and the degree of "integration between industry and city" is amazing.
The reason why chemical plants and residential areas dare to be so "intimate contact" is mainly because Japanese people have enough confidence in chemical plants and chemical companies for their own safety.
When visiting the JX Gengan Refinery, the company must first put up a promotional video. Before the official broadcast, the company staff took two minutes to introduce the emergency evacuation channel of the venue to the visitors in case of accidents when watching the promotional video.
The specific safety and disaster prevention facilities of an enterprise are equally impressive. In addition to the shoreline along the sea, greenery is planted around the plant area of the Gengan refinery. The green belt is like a green belt that not only beautifies the environment, but also sets up an ecological barrier for the factory and the outside.
Inside the part of the wall of the factory, a pool like a moat was dug, and the pool was filled with water. The volume of these pools has been accurately calculated, and the stored water is just enough to extinguish fires that may occur in the main production facilities of the plant. At the edge of the plant area adjacent to the residential area and viaduct, a special ring plant water pipe was also installed. In the event of a fire or explosion in the factory, water will be sprayed upwards on the outside of the water pipe to form a 40-meter-high safety water wall.
The most expensive fertilizer plant is environmental protection equipment
The environmental protection of chemical companies is the focus of the investigation in this trip to Japan. Studying advanced environmental protection practices of chemical plants in developed countries is of great practical significance to Thorpe, who is determined to build a green chemical industry, and to Zhenjiang, which is "eco-leading and characteristic development".
Any chemical company that visited the whole process, whether it is an oil refining base or a fertilizer factory, can hardly smell any odor. A common feeling among the members of the delegation is that Japanese chemical companies lack the "unique atmosphere" of chemical plants.
Japan explained: Japan has strict industrial emission standards. As long as companies meet the emission standards, they will not have too many negative impacts on the environment. Taking gas emissions as an example, the company has dealt with the particulate matter and various chemical components in the exhaust gas according to the regulations, and the approximate water vapor discharged has basically no environmental burden.
The explanation actually implies the following reason: the emissions of chemical companies are not terrible, what is terrible is that they do not meet the standards.
How do Japanese chemical companies deal with the "three wastes" and meet the emission standards? At the chemical fertilizer plant, company executives detailed the production process. Almost half of the dozens of processes are based on environmental protection purposes. Before the final discharge, the gas in the production process has been processed through many steps such as dust suction, water spray dust reduction, water circulation, alkaline substance neutralization, and integrated combustion. Of all the production equipment in the fertilizer plant, the most expensive is environmental protection equipment.
Japanese chemical companies' emphasis on environmental protection can be better seen from another example. Mitsui & Co., Ltd. is a large chemical-based group. The company is demolishing and rebuilding a headquarters building in downtown Tokyo. Currently, it leases a nearby high-rise office temporarily. However, despite being in the Tengkang period, the reconstruction plan of Mitsui & Co.’s headquarters building was not slow. They used the latest technology to demolish the old building from the top floor.
Directional blasting, which can be done in a matter of seconds, requires many times the time and economic cost of dismantling buildings. The only benefit is that the impact on the environment is minimized.
Environmental protection chemical harmoniously integrated into life
The relationship between the chemical industry and modern life is undoubtedly getting closer. However, the deterioration of the environment in the age of heavy chemical industry also makes many people increasingly vigilant about chemical industry. Is the chemical industry an angel or a devil? This question seems to have another answer in Japan. Japanese chemical companies are very good at demonstrating the close relationship between the chemical industry and a better life through product display. Mitsui Chemicals even called the export number: to realize the dream with the power of chemistry.
Regardless of the spatial distance or psychological distance, the Japanese people are closer to the chemical industry and even the chemical plant. According to this, many people living in the shadow of "chemical industry" may find that the original chemical plant can be harmoniously integrated into our city and life as long as it is ecological and environmentally friendly.
    But how does this happen?
Kawasaki Taehiro, a senior executive at Mitsui & Co., said that the chemical industry in Japan was the culprit of environmental degradation four or fifty years ago, and heavy chemical pollution caused four major public hazards that shocked the world. For a time, Japanese people and chemical companies were in full swing.
However, after decades of government and corporate investment and efforts in environmental protection, Japan’s ecological environment has gradually been restored, and the relationship between citizens and chemical companies has been continuously restored. Today, Japanese chemical companies generally maintain good relations with neighboring residents.
Japanese chemical companies attach great importance to social responsibility. Almost all companies will carry out various community activities, such as holding community ball games, leading children to adopt forests, etc. The company will regularly organize visits of surrounding residents, and even open to residents at any time. Especially in terms of environmental protection, the environmental protection construction and emission data of enterprises will be released to surrounding residents in a timely manner.
In response to the environmental responsibility of the chemical industry, Japan has formulated strict laws and regulations. Many chemical companies will also develop their own environmental standards and reach a "gentleman agreement" with local governments. The standards established and consciously observed by the enterprise must be stricter than the legal standards.
